There are many types of computers that the average human would not know about yet they are all in one way or another apart of their daily life. But the most important types of computer that nearly everyone uses or is familiar with are Desktops, Laptops, and Wearable Computers. All three are types of Personal Computers, PC for short, which primarily run the windows operating system, but there are other types which run different operating system, like Apple. Personal Computers are meant for personal use, and they can range in many ways. Such as some are made primarily for gaming use, and some for work-related use.
Desktops
Desktops is the most basic and recognizable form of computers, and the most frequently used. A desktop is a type of PC that isn't portable and is meant to be stationed at a fixed spot and used there. They are meant to have more power, and storage than other type of computers, and they tend to have standardized parts which cause it to have a lower price than other PC's, but they also have a bigger capacity for modification. Which makes it useful because it can do some things that other computers aren't able to. One type of desktop is the workstations, which are computers that are like desktops but are more powerful and has more memory and enhanced capabilities to perform a special task. Such tasks include game development, or scientific applications. They also can be used for visualization and manipulation. Another type of desktop are servers, which are computers that have been optimized to provide services to other computers over a network. To do so, they tend to have powerful processors, lots of memory and hard drive.
Laptops
Laptops are a type of PC that is meant to be portable and to be used wherever you find comfortable. That’s why they are popular among students because they have all the necessary things of PC, such as the mouse, keyboard, and screen all put into one portable object. They also come with rechargeable batteries so they can be used anytime you want. But the downsides of laptops is that they aren't as powerful as their brethren, the desktops, and have less storage capacity. But as technology advances, more opportunities might rise for the laptop. One alternative form of a laptop is the netbook, which is a ultra-portable computer that has far less capacities then a traditional laptop such as storage and power. But they are much lighter and cost far less then a laptop.
Wearable Computer
Wearable Computers are miniature electronic devices that are integrated into watches, cell phones, visors, and even clothing and is used for common computer applications such as email. And as technology advances, they have the potential to be the most widely used form of computers. But they lack the speed and power that other forms of computer have. One form of a wearable computer is the PDA, which is a personal digital assistant. They are tightly integrated computers that use flash memory instead of a hard drive storage which most PCs have. These computers don't have a keyboard or mouse, but rather rely on touchscreen technology for use input, which majority of wearable computers are based on.
Even though the possibilities of how a computer is used and how it affects us, there are only a few types of computers that really make a major impact and are heavily a part of our daily lives. The three most important types are desktops, laptops, and wearable computers.
